Supported Independent Living (SIL)

SIL is about a stable, comfortable home where you feel respected and supported to live well. We help you build routines, strengthen daily living skills, and develop confidence at your pace. Our team assists with practical things tailored to your needs: cooking, cleaning, personal care, medication prompts, budgeting, and community access.


We work with families, support coordinators and clinical teams to ensure home life is consistent, safe, and aligned with your goals. Compatibility, communication, and stability are central to how we operate.

  • Who is eligible for SIL under the NDIS?

    SIL is generally for people who need 24/7 or regular daily support. Eligibility is based on your functional needs, goals, and NDIS plan.

  • How is SDA different from SIL?

    SDA is the physical home. SIL is the support provided inside the home. Many participants receive both, but they are funded separately. HavenDoor can provide both SDA and SIL services. 

  • Can HavenDoor help me find SDA vacancies?

    Yes. We work with SDA providers and support coordinators to help you explore suitable SDA vacancies in your area. At HavenDoor we also provide SDA properties. 

  • Do you support people with complex needs in SDA?

    We do. Our team is experienced in supporting people with high and complex needs in specialised housing environments. We have a team of qualified Mental Health Nurses who guide the onboarding process.

Short Term Respite (STR)

Respite (previously Short Term Accommodation or STA) provides a safe, welcoming place to rest and recharge while your usual carers take a break. Whether planned or emergency, we offer a calm, comfortable environment where your routines and wellbeing stay at the centre. We support you with daily living tasks, meals, personal care, community access, and meaningful activities that help you feel settled.


We offer clear communication, reliable handovers, and a smooth intake process. We work closely with families, support coordinators, recovery coaches, and clinical teams to ensure your respite experience is smooth, consistent, and supportive.

Short Term Respite (STR) — FAQ

  • What is Short Term Respite (STR)?

    Short Term Respite (also called Short Term Accommodation or STA) provides a temporary break for you and your carers, offering a safe, supportive place to stay. It can be a bit like a mini holiday.


  • Who can access STR under the NDIS?

    STR is available to participants who need short‑term support due to changes in routine, carer breaks, or times when additional assistance is required.


  • What does HavenDoor’s respite include?

    We provide 24/7 support, meals, community access, personal care, and skill‑building activities in a comfortable, welcoming environment.


  • How long can I stay in respite?

    Most STR stays are up to 14 days at a time, depending on your NDIS plan and goals. HavenDoor can be flexible in terms of STA duration to meet your needs. 


  • Do you offer respite for mental health or psychosocial disability?

    ILO funding is delivered in two stages: exploration and design, followed by implementation. We guide you through both.
